A Board of Marine Inquiry into the MV ANJEANETTE casualty has been established under the Shipping Act 1998 to independently examine the fire onboard MV ANJEANETTE at Point Cruz on 4 July 2026, the vessel’s subsequent sinking and total loss, and the presumed loss of life arising from the casualty.
The Board commenced work on 1 September 2026 and comprises three members. The Board will examine the circumstances and contributing factors, relevant operational and emergency-response matters, possible failures of duty or legal non-compliance, and safety actions required to prevent similar casualties. Its written report is due by 31 October 2026.
The Board will conduct the Inquiry independently and in accordance with the Shipping Act 1998 and the Shipping (Marine Inquiries and Investigations) Regulations 2011. Information about the public hearings, attendance arrangements and participation in the Inquiry will be provided in the General Notice of Marine Inquiry once approved by the Board.
