Shipping Operations & Safety

Shipping Operations and Safety at SIMA cover the area of maritime safety and security. the objective is to give full effect to all international maritime conventions Solomon Islands is a party and implement registration, safety and security standards under the Shipping Act 1998 as amended and its subsidiary laws.

The Department of Shipping Operations and Safety is responsible for:

  1. Registration of vessels
  2. Flag State Inspection (inspection of registered vessels)
  3. Port State Control (inspection of vessels not registered in Solomon Islands but in Solomon Islands waters)
  4. Safe Manning and Seafarers’ Assessment and Certification
  5. Security of Port Facilities and Ship.
