SIMA intends to make a new maritime order regulating the carriage and registration of passengers on board registered vessels. It is essential the number and the identity of passengers on board vessels is known at all times and that it is subject to strict procedures of registration and counting by shipping companies and vessels. The maritime order also regulates the passenger carrying capacity of vessels, the carriage of persons with limited mobility, infants and non-accompanied children, and other provisions related to cargo and luggage.
The public consultation on the Solomon Islands Maritime Authority (Carriage and Registration of Passengers) Maritime Order is starting on 1 June 2024 for 60 days. Feedback should be sent to contact@sima.gov.sb.
